Amazing, I should share this picture with my wife to prepare her when we move to a new place once the current Minimum Occupancy Period is up.

The tank, led lights, chiller, filters, fauna and flora comes up to around 2k plus. The carpentry is part of the house renovation, this unable to provide a definite breakdown. Items like filters and co2 equipment were pre-existing.

Gotten most of the rocks from seaview, I think they are known as dragon stones but the seaview doesn't categorize the stock very well so I just get those that look alike. There are approximately 15-20kg inside.

Wow. I think I would safely assume that the whole tank plus the carpentry would total up to about 4-5k with all the filters etc

    Hi Himyick,
Can i check with you do you have any problem with the heat generated from your chiller since it is hidden. I presume the chiller is inside the cabinet. How do manage the heat because i am in a similar situation whereby i have to leave a cab door open for the heat to escape. Can give me some pointers?

    Re: My Living Room Tank

Sorry for the late reply. I'm using hollow rectangular aluminium bars as shown in the picture below, the bars are easily available at hardware shops that deals in pipes, metals etc... The leds are all cool whites. Hope this helps.

    Re: My Living Room Tank

I have holes drilled in the cabinet to let out the hot exhaust if the doors are closed. I normally leave the door ajar when no one is at home. When there are visitors or events at home then I'll close it totally. Hope this helps.

Oh ya! himyick, wonder if there is any safety concerns? I mean basically I believe all LEDs are soldered and connected with wires, and all these wires and LEDs are directly exposed facing the water. Have u experienced any accidental splashing of water onto the LED and wires? i'm quite worried with short circuit and electric shock! lol~ also, did you use any insulation and thermal paste in between LED PCB and aluminium base? Damn... i guess i have too many questions! I hope you dont mind! Overly excited! You really inspired me to build my own LED light system!

    Hi Himyick,
Thanks for your sharing. I guess i am already doing the same thing. The difference is that i can totally unhinged one of my cabinet door. Also when there are visitors, i will place back the door to show the "complete" setup. Haha...guess that is one of the issue with a close up cabinet. And just for your info, I have a 5x2x2 tank in my living room too.

It'll still shorten the lifespan of the chiller. It will be good if behind is open for air escape and front is grille vents for air intake.

    Re: My Living Room Tank

I dont know if this is the right place to pose my question, if not pls advise. I have been considering getting a chiller for my 4feet tank for a long time now but the energy consumption has always been my concern. Wondering what will the monthly electricity bill be like. All sharings very much appreciated. Thanks.

Impressive, just that I noticed the whole cabinet including the tank is suspended. I will be a bit worried even though some good enforcement would have been made behind the scenes since it's a 6 ft tank with water

    wow simply beautiful

    really envious

by the way, I heard anything 6 feet and above needs HDB approval?

wish I can have one next time

    Re: My Living Room Tank

Humble thanks for the kind words.

No protection is provided in my design, thus it would be best to incorporate some form of pretection against splashing in your design.

The cabinet is designed to give the impression of being suspended when the lights are on. Like what zero had said, it is not suspended.

My doors are able to be unhinged as well but I didn't do that as I find that the gap is sufficent enough. Thumbs up for your tank too!

Electricity cost dependant on the desired temperature set for the tank and other environmental factors such as the ambient heat load of the tank and its surroundings etc. My electricity load (for set temp of 27°C) is approx 100.5 KWH for 78 days of countinous operations (measured from electricial load meter purchased off ebay, meter is not calibrated). Based on unit cost of 20.89cent per KWH, the cost is about 26.9 cents per day. Individual mileage varies

The same ventilation holes are designed for the intakes as well.

HDB permit is primarily conerned of the weight loading not the dimenesions. If you go by the conventional tank maker dimension for 6ft tanks (6x2.5x2.5), then yes you would need a permit from HDB becasue the the weight of the water alone is 1152kg. Mine is 6x1.5x1.5 = the weight is only 364.50kg, thus no permit is required.
