Hi Aquatic Fellows,

I would like to know anyone ever try to add 2X80mm dc fan on Juwel Rio 400 Series?

If my tank set consists of 4 FL light , what is the lowest temperature i can achieved with (2x80mm) dc fans?

visit www.petfrd.com on their articles on DIY stuffs. there's this one on DLY fan. very good. the most fans can do is to bring the water to your room tempreture. so if you stay at a high place, might be able to drop to 27-28... hardly lower then that unless at night. or you put your tank in air-con room.. that's different story.

sorry.. use your post. how to i connect a clip to the fan? my tank is only 1ft with no cover so i can't use the method mention in petfrd because it will block the light. please help..

you can use cable ties to tie your fan to the fan clip.

which means i would have to drill a hole through the fan and the clip? and what clip shold i use and can i get them? and using this method, can i adjust the angle of the fan?

normally, fans will have mounting holes. you may have to drill holes on the mounting clip.
try to look for fan mounting clip in lfs. think nature aquarium has it.
whether you can adjust the angle of the fan depends on the clip design.

It look to me that the 4 holes at the corner are the mounting hole.

Use U shape alum or cut acrylic to secure the PC fan then to the side of the tank.

Can someone explain in layman terms?

think u can go see the petfrd article to learn more.

Anyway, in layman terms, alum is aluminum.

Do you have those aluminum cover that cover the slots behind the PC? You can bent them into a U shape and attach the fans using screws.
Think someone did them b4 in the forum?

On this topic of DIY fans. Anyone research or investigated the optimal size/current of the fan(s)?

for example, is a 120mm 0.2A fan better or 2 60mm 0.1A fans, etc...?

For me, I found out that 3x60mm 0.1A fan is not as good as 1x0.24 120mm fan, apart from less surface agitation and taking up less width. All are 12V fans.

should be 3x60mm give less surface agitation and occupies <more> width. right?

a single high speed fan (higher current) takes up less space, noisy and causes considerable surface agitation.
a few smaller lower speed fans (may be using same or slightly higher current) takes up more space, much quieter and should cause minimal surface agitation.
the main factors for consideration will be evaporation and noise. space required will be a factor for small tanks.

OK, let me clarify. Because for my tank (2x1ft) I am putting the fan parallel to the surface (DIY using wire trunking) so if I use a 120mm fan, I have to push the light further back then if I were to use 3x60mm side by side. So to me the 120mm takes up more "depth" (maybe width is not the correct term to use).

to secure the fan, it would be better if you use screws or cable ties.
and you'll probably need to drill holes.

secure the fan to where? i now have problems trying to thing of ways to secure the fan to the tank .

your previous post was asking how to secure the fan to the frame, right???
you have a light set across the top of your tank?
get 2 sticks that are long enough to span the distance from tank edge to light set.
secure the 2 sticks to the fan by using cable ties.
what you'll get is a 'H' shaped structure with the fan in the middle.
drop this in the space between the lights and the tank edge.

erm.. nope.. my light is those small clip on ones.. my tank only 1ft. and sorry for being such a bother.
