    Hi everyone!

Recently I noticed a patch of mould or fungus on my driftwood of my shrimp tank. It was one small patch about 3-5 days ago but it has grown bigger. Will it affect my tank inhabitants? How can I remove it without harming my shrimps?

I have fire reds, cherries and 3 ottos in my 2 ft tank. I have a number of shrimplets in my tank too. No chiller.

Sorry about the poor quality pics.. Taken using my phone and my tank wall has algae. The mould/fungus is the white patch on the wood in the first pic.

Usually the mold/fungus come from spores still in the wood, when conditions are favorable they start to appear and grow out.

I've experienced them on some wood pieces in my tanks before too, they should not affect your shrimps (sometimes shrimps might even pick at them for food), but the mold/fungus growth can be an eyesore and might end up multiplying across the wood surface, so you should manually remove any that you find (take out the wood and scrub away the mold/fungus) to hopefully eradicate them from the tank.

I had experienced fungus on my driftwood in the past. Once it spread and infect my entire driftwood within 2 week that I decided to throw the driftwood. Another driftwood, I remove it using tweezer everyday when they are still in small spot. After about a week, it was gone and never occurs again. Good luck.

Thanks guys! I think I shall use a tweezer and try to remove it.. The driftwood has been in my aquarium for a year plus. Only recently there's such a problem. I'll update here again. =)
