Understand JBJ-brand lights have accessories that allows one to hang the light from ceiling. For other brand such as OceanFree or Atman lights, has anyone thought of ways of hanging the lights from the ceiling such that it looks neat (professional) and at the same time incorporate a pulley system to facilitate hand-wetting-activities?
I thought of using the neat-looking shower-screen-guide from Ikea to hand the lights. Can also replace the braided wire with some form of insulated electrical wire to lead electricity into the light-set. But how about the pulley? Anyone saw something (must be neat) that we can use?
It would be neat to have a braceless and hood-less tank with overhanging lights less the heat commonly associated with MH.

Simon there must be cost effective ways and alternatives to this wonderful hobby. Very often common items when re-classified as 'aquarium product' has their price increased for no apparent reason.
having a pulley system is great but you have to resolve the issue of moving the light set up/down on an even keel. should be the main issue.
however, it isn't going to be neat as you'll have cables (at least 2) running on the ceiling and down a wall.
how about light set on a track system? meaning the light set moving along the horizontal axis. (railway tracks on the ceiling)
mh is used very extensively in marine more than planted ...
maybe u might wanna try asking in sgreefclub.com?
alternatively, if im not wrong ... arcadia has the up/down pulley system for its '3' series MH ...
the owner of sgreefclub achilles tang has the railway MH (diyed) ... do check it out ...

I have seen those cheap sun-screen used by provision shops. They seemed to have simple but effective method to control the keel.

I'm trying to avoid MH because of heat + MH casts hard-shadows. Re. the AT's railway MH, can you help provide the link? I'm not a member (lazy) and so cannot do a search in SRC.

You mean those bamboo chicks? Its a very simple... it's all based on rope length. Getting them to stay balance is a matter of raising and lowering carefully thats all. You can come practice with my house bamboo chicks if you want. :P
It's a good cheap alternative to those commercial auto-retracting ones. You just have to live with an extra set of ropes running down from the pulleys.
