From my experience, otos relish soft brown algae... whenever i add them to a new tank after it has fully established its cycle (usually by then there would be a good amount of initial brown algae built up in areas of the tank), they will help clear the majority of the brown algae and i can see their tummies all nice and round.

Yeah, otos usually don't consume green spot algae, its too hard for them to eat.

Yes, I use nerites to clear green spots in the tank glass as well as other surface algae.

The few common ones found in LFS are horned nerite and zebra nerites. Most LFS do carry them and I always get my nerites from Y618..

The common mistake is to dump in too many....love ottos...like the way they use their fine as support to hang upside down...

I heard that ottos would need to be kept at a pack of 6 or more in order for them to feel comfortable. I bought 10 at one shot. Death count so far remains at 0.

My fire reds are really scared of them and tend to jump up in shock whenever the ottos try to nip on their backs.

Depend on size of tank and availability of food resource to support them. I have 4 in my tank and they are fine.

It could be due to alot of accumulated dirt and debris trapped amongst the fissidens, try removing the fissiden covered wood or rock from the tank and swirl/rinse it in clean de-chlorinated water, sometimes it helps.

Re: A Suitable Replacement To Yamatoe Shrimps

I had a few before, they died an early death after a few months after their shells got pitted and eventually a small hole developed at the end, I do inject a fair bit of Co2 and have a low pH though...
