What kind of media did you put in?

hi guys , i recently bought an Eheim classic 250 or 2213 canister filter. I put everything together like the instructions told me to. everything was going well up to the point where i had to prime the thing. i prime it correctly and plug it in. The canister turned on and water was flowing. Only problem is, it was flowing at a pathetic rate. I am sure it is not flowing at 100% more like 30-40%. i already carried out most of the solutions like running the canister for awhile so that air in the canister will be expelled but water is still flowing at a slow rate. my canister is just beside my tank but it is definitely below the water level of that tank. i even take out some of the media in the media basket but it doesnt seem to work. shortening the length of the hoses seems to be in no avail. i tried to check if my impeller( correct me if i am wrongi am new to this ) and saw that the magnet thingy is not lodged in place with the plastic thingy .IMG_1874.jpg
i am really out of options so i really need some guidance. please be patient with me as i am still new to this canister filters .

hello. i placed mechanical media ( blue sponge that came with the eheim) at the bottom followed by seachem matrix and then the filter wool and carbon pad which both came with the filter. thank you for your time .
The standard 2213 eheim media from bottom to top is: the round looking ring media, blue porous sponge, bioball, thin carbon sponge and wool sponge

does the placement of the blue coarse sponge play a big role in the rate at which the water flows ? i will give it a try of your suggested order.
I cant see the picture that you posted and it might be one of the reasons its affecting it. Media does play a role in the water flow as the bigger media like round rings are placed at the bottom to let the water flow through first before hitting the finer media

from the picture look like the impeller is broken, get new one or return it if still under warranty.
i just got it not less than 7 days ago. is it really broken ? correct me if iam wrong . by impeller you mean the magnet and the plastic thingy as one single piece ?
difficult to explain, try this, turn the magnet 360 degree or one circle, if can that mean spoiled.
The white plastic part should have it's base stuck to the magnet for it to be able to turn the propeller.
the white plastic base is not secured to the magnet. it can be easily dislodged. and the magnet cant turn 360 degrees however the top plastic part can .
is that considered broken ?
It should be one piece not magnet and top part.
Yes, the impeller is broken, the motor in the head actually drives the magnetic portion, and that's supposed to turn the impeller (the vane thing), if the magnet is not mechanically coupled (joined) to the impeller, it can't do that. I'm surprised there's even flow at all, you'd have to get a new impeller somehow (changed or buy one).
Ahh.. Thank you so much. Will get back to you guys soon. Thank you for your time guys. Really helpful.
Hey guys just a quick update. Problem solve !! It was the impeller causing the low flow rate. Have it replaced and voila everything bak to normal. Just a quick thanks to those who help methank you ! Finally can continue on my marine tank

Cool, do start a new thread documenting your process/progress.![]()
great to hear that! most of the time it's the impeller that is causing the problem, as it that the drives the water.
