Latest kind of plants and tank setting

Hi all, i have lost touch with planted tank for quite some time and now trying to start my hobby back again. i would like to noe what is the lastest trend , plants , fish , shrimps, snail , setting.. last time ( 2001) Takashi amano was veri hot, i wonder is there any new trend and concept from others?

anyway, i just set up a 1.5ft tank using normal garden soil as base fert. and now everything is doing pretty well...... this is going to be a 'local' plants and water setting. with a couple of croaking gouramis, i might add some spotted barbs and harq rasb to make it look 'localised'.
