Hi guys, my current lightset, aquazonic t5ho 24w x 2, is giving me problem as every morning I have to manually switch it on and off a few times before it will light up

I'm going to serve the nation soon and won't be able to do this every morning, so need to get a new light. And also because I don't much success with it growing carpet plants
I was told by a east ocean uncle whom I coincidentally met while I was working that I need a minimum 4 tube to grow nice carpet.

So what I have in mind now is the:

    1st. Aquazonic t5ho 4tubes

2nd. Green element evo 3w led.

Not sure whether the 4tubes lightset also has this "switching on and off few times" problem. Hope can hear from the bros using this.
If the same problem exists with the 4tube also, then I would get the 3w green element led.

And then I have another question

Is the green element 3w led strong enough to reach the bottom to grow carpet plants like jhg? Read that I may need 2 sets of it My tank dimension is the standard 60x 30 x 36.

Sorry for being a bit long winded

    Hi Bro,

I just changed to Green Element EVO 3w LED last friday and i could say it's working quite good for my 60x30x36 tank. I am keeping glosso/dwarf hairglass (carpeting right now), staurogyne repens and rotala wallichii. I have post my tank at aquascaping section and you can have a look. I will post again at my post for update every week to show how the glosso and other plant have grown.

*Do take note that the 3W LED will be quite hot when in operation, i am going to get the fan later at East Ocean during my lunch time (my workplace "quite" near to EO).

    Thanks,
    MingXiang.

Re: Looking to get new light for 2ft tank

I went to East Ocean 2 few weeks back and saw their tanks' plants pearling well so I asked the store keeper why mine isn't. He advised me to change my 2 tube 2ft light to 4 tubes or get another 2 tube light. I bought an aquazonice 4x24w T5HO to replace my 2x24w light subsequently and the plants are pearling after 3 hours of lights on now. Previously, there is no sign of pearling though. Also, hong tai yang that were purchased emersed had their red tips sprouting out at the top and I finally saw my roundifolio getting yellow and pink at the tip. They are green before changing the light though. Do note that you have to increase your CO2 input if you increase your light power

Re: Looking to get new light for 2ft tank

i have only heard of aquazonic brands having this problem, myself i experienced them, thus i changed to LED.

i currently am using two sets of up aqua z series led, and i am very happy with the results.
the leds are much smaller and do not produce as much heat, and having 2 sets allows you to shift the lights whereever you want light to be.

that being said, the LEDs for this set do not make it seem like spotlights like the 3W LEDs.
reason for me getting 2 sets is because LEDs spread is not very good and with two, the light spread is even and strong enough for my HC to carpet.

My aquazonic 4x24w is connected to my timer and I have been using it for about a month. I have the switches as on state 24/7 though and so far it is working fine. It is switched on religiously according to the hours controlled by the timer.

Since you are going to NS, have you considered getting a timer? Or you are already using a timer but you have to switch on and off the lightset a few time with a timer?

Re: Looking to get new light for 2ft tank

Get the Green element evo 3w led.
The 3w led is considered a "higher intensity" led and is capable of reaching tanks of height up to 60cm
That said, You would need to consider the width of your tank because LED intensity is less directional as compared to a tube.

In any event, LED is also more cost effective in the long run as it consumes relatively less electricity and it does not generate excessive heat.
you may also consider the Odyssea Evo Led. Its a good led lamp as well for your requirements
