serious lighting!

hey people!!!
can someone enlighten me on the diff betwiin fl and pl lights? of course besides their heat wattage and shape, spelling......
for pl... factors like intensity? spectrum? does it penetrate better than a same wattage fl?
so now if i use 2x20wattsfl + 2X18wattsfl for 2 feet tank... watts per gallon over 5 already and not enought... would changing the fl to pl tubes help?

i think pl and fl are similar in the way they work.
fl has been around for a long time.
pl has the advantage of more compact size for the same wattage rating.
pl does not flicker when switched on.
think most pl have have colour temperature of 6500k, daylight colour.
penetration should be the same.

you need > 5w/gal???
changing to pl should help as you can put in higher wattage tubes for the same amount of space.

i used to use 6x18w fl lights for my 2ft (1.5x1.5)
your 4 tubes shouldn't be a problem
there should be more than enough light to grow most things
