    30 Aug 2013 - Almost 1 month old

HC is doing well and spreading out nicely. Even the new patches added in almost a week ago did not suffer from any browning and melting.

The back looks void for now because I am in the midst of replanting those grass-like plants for a neater and 'softer' appearance, I have started from the right side till near the center. Will be going shopping at Seaview tomorrow for more plants.

Did a little rescape as I felt the background plants are getting too messy and probably a bit oversized.
Shifted some midground plants as well to created a wider HC carpet. Plugged in some new patches of HC to fill up the void.

    31 Aug 2013 - About 1 month old - Satisfied Scape

I really appreciate all the advice and positive comments during this past month. It has been really a steep learning curve for me. Thankfully, I managed to grow this tank to what it is today without any major hiccups.

During the last week or so, I have replacing/rearranging the background plants. I think I have more or less achieved the scape which what I had visualized initially. After countless trips to LFS and farms, I think it is time to finally sit down and enjoy the final part, to see a more dense appearance, and of course, dabbling with the occasional 'haircut'. Actually, I came across some nice blue rams in a LFS today, which kind of reignites my passion in cichlids. I may perhaps start thinking about a second planted tank soon...

Here's a snapshot of the final scape:

    Re: Diary of my 1st planted tank (60cm x 30cm x 36cm)

The picture reminds me of my 5ft rockscape setup which I did for these colorful African cichlids years ago.

Actually, I also have another tank with some African cichlids, but it is more of like a play-tank for my kid and sort of an experimental tank for me... hehe. Some of the trimmed plants are transferred here to see if how much will they grow under natural light. Please pardon me for the algae on the glass.. I just got 2 algae eaters yesterday and they have cleared up almost 50% in 1 day, amazing!

Bro your tank looks awesome. .....

Imo, 8000k colour tempersture brings out the best coloration of the plants ,
I dont know others agreed on this.

    I tested 6500k , 10000k and 12000k . But all these colour still cant compare with 8000k
Do not visit LFS if you got nothing in mind, you will end up getting nothing or useless stuff ......

    Re: Diary of my 1st planted tank (60cm x 30cm x 36cm)

    8 Sep 2013 - 1 month 1 week

Another weekly update. I always enjoy taking pictures at night because there is lesser reflection on the glass. However, some of the plants are already in 'sleep' mode and may not appear as 'opened' up as during the photo-period. The tiger lotus is growing at a phenomenal rate and I am trimming it more regularly as compared to the other plants, mainly to prevent it from blocking the lights to other plants. Very tempted to add a small number of shoaling fishes to make the scape more lively, what do you think?

Here is a little vid on the inhabitants of the tank, enjoy! (watch in HD )

Here is an update after some trimming and a water change.
The grass plants are really going wild and messy, but I just like it this way!

It's been a while since I last updated.

Have shifted the tank to another location in the house and did a rescape.

Simple but nonetheless beautiful and soothing. Not planning to do anything major like recapping the form of the soil ?

Very nice setup. Like the steep slope of your soil base.
