Re: Learning towards a new hobby - Small Slow Steady and Low

    1. no need

    2. with the filter should lessen the cloud. its only limited to lower half of tank as the cloud is dust from substrate and old sea mud.

    3. you need to preskink dw, sinve already flooded, use rock to hold it down like wongce mention

    4. riccia is a floating plant, the others maybe you have not planted them well or the foam you never take out. there is a few planting videos in you tube that can help.

    5. no need recycle the water, by the time you take it out. will be very cloudy, end up you will still do water change

@felix_fx2 - hahaah, thanks for the tip, you really knows beginner well! In fact, i just finish changing water, about 80% of it. Removed all plants, cr and pebbles. Left DW, charcoal tubes and 1 honeycomb-type of rock a friend gave me. Woah... Shack, small tank with approx. 15litres water also can take 1 whole hour. But after water change, its cloudiness is worst.

Point for bits of prawn is for the bacteria to feast on them. Producing ammonium>nitrite>nitrate>plant ferts.

The sifting part. I meant getting a stick or tweezer and run softly thru the gravel. Or subsequently you can poke and vibrate/shake your hand.

Nerites are only good for cleaning the hard greenspot algae from the tank's glass. They do not do anything to your tank cycling. There are a few kinds of nerites, the most common being the spikey orange/black and the zebra nerites. Nerites will not reproduce in freshwater so that's a plus in a way, but they do lay eggs all over the tank and the eggs are hard to remove and may become unsightly.

Apple snails are a different species and these can get quite big and over populate the tank. They prefer to fight for food with shrimps and fishes than clean algae.

Cycling the tank requires an ammonia source and alot of time.

Re: Learning towards a new hobby - Small Slow Steady and Low

    Hi all,

Below is my first photo of the tank after running for a few days empty. Went to Polyart and bought a couple of cherries to test water condition as suggested by a few friends. Think the uncle scooped in an extra Yellow free. Hehe.

So far so good, surviving 24hrs.
Swopped out the plants for one ball of moss. Anyone knows whats the smallest moss ball i could get and from where? Mine seems a little too big... I'm thinking of marble size!

My thermometer seems... Faulty? Day/night all the time shows 30c

Second bro Berny's idea. Polyart selling big ones at 3 for $10. You will have a lot of green marbles. Subsequently. I saw c328 selling marble sized Marimo at if I remember correctly(IIRC allowed in AQ?) $3

Temperature should be doing fine. My doesn't go below 29 or above 30. If you wanted to check if it is working stick it into iced water.

    Give you link.
    Price Discussion Rules

long story cut short. use price range as there is no firm price on livestock/plants
If you have regular specials, best not to say inside forum openly.

What you did was comparing retail prices of 2 different sizes of the same plant between 2 shops.

I believe the above is more of an... Ethical obligations so that it does not affect retailers benefits. While the prices across may be competitive, the pre and post sales experience may be different. Just my two cents.
