Feeding routine was about 1 and 1/2 day once.
For CRS specialty, I feed only 1/6 while Spinach only about 1/4... They never finish it. Sera food I feed about 15 pellets each time also hardly touch.

Btw, I spotted the 3rd batch of babies today! See the size difference, It's getting crowded!
Yeah. You mentioned they never finishes it. Try to reduce the food until they can finish up. They don't need to be fed full because they are scavengers and is always picking up detritus and algae round the clock.

If I were you I would remove the youngs because at that size if they don't show any colours chances are they interbreed. But it is entirely up to you.

Great tips, in fact I was pondering when to buy my 2nd 1 feet to separate the reds and yellows after I saw your last comment. Actually wanted to start another tank for chocolates, guess I'd skip for the moment.
The babies... Mamas were berried when I bought them so I can't be sure whether they were interbred or...
Blame it on my lousy phone cam they were showing light color tints.

This photo captured with my iPad, you can see the slight tint of red on the foreground shrimps on the right, compare to the paler whiter ones on the left from yellow mama.

Oh. I see. Could probably wait for a week more. 1ft is good. Building a rack is even more good. :-)

Oh ya. Do remove air bubbles stuck in the substrate

Learning towards a new hobby - Small Slow Steady and Low

    Surprise updates again.

Went to Seaview on Sunday to purchase new tank preparing to split the colors...
Test for leakage on day 1 and has yet to commission the tank...

Came back today from work and discover surprises... Newborns 1 day old everywhere!!!
Can you spot the 2 babies? Only about 1.5-2mm in length. Some pieces of individual substrate are even bigger than the babies... And really lucky the boraras ain't aiming them.

I'm surprised as the Yellow mama was only exactly shown berried or transferred its eggs to swimmerets on the 3rd Nov, I've read gestation period should be 4 weeks... But the above shrimp babies were released today and the mama does not have new saddle. 15 days only! And I do not recall seeing the yellow eggs change color nor shown eyes last night. Could I be wrong somewhere? Can experts help to confirm if newly born shrimplets are between the length described above or smaller?

Btw Naraki, I remembered stirring the substrate before I pour in the babies previously. Over 1 day of intense observation then I realized the area with bubbles you saw on the pictures were infested with Nematodes. Yeah, I've confirmed with picture identification the white worms I had are Nematodes instead of Planaria which I previously guess.

Area which I fed other food did not have worms or bubbles beneath, I stirred every corner to confirm.
Rather, the area which was about 5x6cm wide infested with Nematodes had a sticky hardened substrate surface covered with browned grime compare to other spots where the substrate was loose and 0 bubbles. Stirring it caused outburst of bubbles... Alot of them similar to airstone effect.

Also I've observed that boraras does not eat Nematodes on bottom of tank glass or floorbed.
They will only gobble the worms if you stir up the substrate and caused Nematodes to be swimming freely.

I am now wondering if there would be other shrimp-friendly fish that would eat Nematodes.
Anyone had experience with Indostomus (pipe fish) and Panda loach can share?
Also, for dirt clearing, anyone can suggest if I should get Pygmy Cory or Otos (which is smallest)?

Just taken a blurry zoomed in picture for size comparison
Note the size of the 1 day old baby on the piece of substrate against the approximate 3 weeks old juveniles

Think I should next learn photography and get a DSLR with macro lens. Haha.

Congrats on your new set of shrimplets! And diving deep into the addict

From what I see in my tank. New born shrimplets does not join the adults or semi matured shrimps in feeding. They will be hidden from view picking off bacterial to obtain a component needed for their stomach.(enzyme or something,I forgot) Please correct me if I am wrong.
My shrimplets only take on a light colour after a week swimming around picking off algae

As for the nematodes. I guess wriggling worms is Much more appetizing than a crawling one.lol

Re: Learning towards a new hobby - Small Slow Steady and Low

Hi Shifus, been awhile since I update.

I would like to expand another 2ft tank with chiller and partition into half to house CRS/CBS separately.
Since it's a single tank partitioned, I guess it'd be easier to maintain the water parameters right?
I've seen most mixed their WR/BKK/BB together... Won't they cross breed and loses its colors?

I also would like to use 1 chiller for 2 tanks, any brothers done it with water bridge?
Trying to find those SS tubes to use, but can't find the cost or location to get. Any ideas?
A sump alternative may not be feasible for me as my place is quite small, and I'm dumb at it.

    Appreciate
