Plant hormones

Anyone tried plant hormones before? Did a search after reading this article http://www.plant-hormones.info/auxins.htm and found the follwing products.

I used Azoo Gibberellins and Auxins a while ago. My Cryptocorynes do seem to root faster than usual. My stem plants also appears to grow faster though it came with one annoyance - The distance between leaf nodes increased, making the plants lanky and a tad ugly IMO.

Using Gibberellins as a 1/2 day pre-soak before I add new plants to the tank (an experiment of sorts) gave mixed results. Stem plants sprouted roots at the leaf nodes in a matter of days. Some rosette plants melted away completely within a day after planting.

These plant hormones are probably something I will add whenever I setup a tank but I'll set them aside once the plants are growing fine.

i added all 3 products as recommended and most of the BBA seems to clear away with good plant growth.

The moss is the first to show sign of good grow. Other then that, the java ferns also seems to put out plantlets faster. Tenellus of course, got a little bigger.

Like Lorba I also put/used all the 3 concurrently.
I like the result I see; my parva is putting out new leaves; my nana is putting out new leaves and flower; my ferns is putting out lots of new shoots and leaves are now broader. As I have mostly slow-plants, I dose less than 0.5 the recommended dosage.

I saw the product on sales both at ecoculture and polyart for $7 a bottle. Not sure about other shops.

I guess most shops that carries AZOO product will have them.

I never found Azoo or any hormones to have any effect at all on aquatic plants.
Emergent Crypts had some slight effect.

You can buy Supoer Thrive here for a few $ for a bottle that has the hormones etc.

The problem in hormone usage for Aquatic plants and this is a huge issue, they are generally use in agricultures for fruit and flower enhancement.

We do not grow plants for this, so "Gibbing the grapes" is not something that would help our Eustralis.

We are after vegetative growth as rule.

Hormones have had little effect individually and combinations. I'd honestly tell every one of you, save your money.

You'll be much better off rinsing and picking your plants clean and then providing lots of CO2,NO3 etc

While there is some truth with agricultural crop enhancement, it's not the kind we want====>so think Snake oil.

Rooting hormones are not needed for aquatics, they root easily.

From reading the link provided, auxins and gibberellins encourage cell elongation. As described in http://www.plant-hormones.info/gibberellins.htm

"Stimulate stem elongation by stimulating cell division and elongation."

This might be the reason for the "lanky" growth some users have reported. IMO these hormones are best used (in our hobby) when dealing with tissue culture.

Dr Kane does TC here at University of Florida and is a good friend of mine. He raises many aquatic plants and is the foremost aquatic TC researcher in the USA.

He does not recommend it for more than TC and other agricultural uses, not for aquatic plant tanks.

I've used these hormones in a number of cases and concentrations.
There was some work on Crypts that was done, but that was it.
As far as I know, there is no evidence that these hormones help vegetative aquatic plant growth.

So save your money!Send me 10$ instead!

i used that too, got from eco some time back, actually tot of going to Hk to get dennerle Gold 7 but something crop up last yr...

is not very good for stem plants, but for moss and fern the growth rate is superb.......
too much will caused lead to rot off. so becareful when u used it...

Wow..this thread is indeed old. I have this to say..I guess I overloaded on the Azoo thingie on my planted tank and guess what all the BBA literally turned light pink and died..
