I have taken a interest in red tiger lotus recently. Looking around LFS, I noticed that some are sold without the bulb. (I may be wrong, my eyes could be dazzled blind by plants) Will they survive?
Did some web research, there are some suggestions to placed them in pot buried in the soil to limit their grow or their roots. Is it neccessary?
Any more advise would be very useful.

Hi Naraki,
I relied heavily on Tropica website for referencing.
http://www.tropica.com/en/plants/pla...n.aspx?pid=019
It is listed as bulbs plant type, therefore i am curious why locally it is not sold with the bulb. I presume your is growing happily in your tank.

Bennyc...you are correct that they are bulb plants ....I think its only with very young plants you have them with the bulb....the plant will consume what every stored nutrients in the bulb and I think it will shrink and/or disappear over time....I could be wrong....

WOW. Gosh i learnt something today. Mine didn't have bulb either. But mine propagate by sending out small roots. I did a quick research and also found out that tiger lotus will grow new shoots by growing a new stem from a mother tiger lotus. Something like Hydrocotyle verticillata.
So i guess it is still alright, It will still grow
Recent studies shows that putting recent studies in your statement have a higher percentage of trust people put into your recent studies. What?
are you trying to grow them emersed....for the reason of propagation? While I have no experience here but if you like I can give Teo a call and ask him for you....![]()

I would do the potting thing on echinodorus only. I never had a root system invasion with lotus.
I am balding but i am still young!
Perhaps this site may give you the insight that you need?....Look at the Propagation Section....

@ david, thanks for introducing the read. I am not try to propagate it, it is just that it seems to be the method to plant them, as suggested by many online, so i am just curious. I believe Bro Erctheanda has given me the answer.
