So you decided to custom make a stand like UA? Can't wait to see how it turns out. Might have to go down that route myself if the expedit starts to show signs of stress.

Ikea Stuva looks good. Fits perfectly for a 2 feet. I'm considering this for my tank.

Check out the material of the interior : Honeycomb structure recycled paper filling, Fibreboard, Foil, Particleboard. Aren't you worried at all?

@tongyang, There is the trend of wanting to use ikea stuff in the last 6 months that some are trying to prove, The very 1st guy reinforced supports with solid wood & extra bracing took great care of it. Everyone else after is riding on his success despite many seniors advice. For his case i see spillage control from Plastic sheet which is below what i think is... carpet section or rug. , but no bracing or reinforcements or what so ever.

Those who do know some architectural stuff, just take a look at assembly instructions. Not sure the max load as the ikea page didn't mention.

No doubt there are risk involved. Over excess splashing of water on woods would definitely cause problems in long run. All you need to do is pay close attention to the cabinet, I believe the tank would not be set-up and left alone for a long period. Worried? Of course I am worried, even if my tank is on metal shelves, I will be worrying about rust.

Guess once there is something I see amiss, I will have to attend to it immediately.

I think with sufficient reinforcement is still fine. I'm a big fan of Ikea as well, I just feel that particle boards are not suitable for our humid climate. The wardrobe and bookshelf that I've bought before started to warp over time, even the side panels. So now I will just go for plywood or solid wood.

so ikea idea is done bye bye.
made and delivered this solid rack.
always got concerned that its an overkill beam size. haha
but i really dont prefer the 1inch beam.

now is just sitting there wrapped, as i wont setup anything before my moving house.
    hope it will be good
