@seudzar...thanks for the info about the banana plant. Seen it years back but I did not have any experience with it.
The emersed or floater leaves I was referring to is the lotus...![]()

My favourite lotuses (water lilies actually) are the red tiger and green tiger.
In my experience, the red tiger grows lots of leaves. It would usually grow lots of smaller leaves once the substrate tabs run out. Always leave at least 2 opened leaves per plant if you trim them back.
The green tiger growing in the same tank focused on growing a few big leaves. Easily bigger than my hand with out stretched fingers. Harder to keep alive once the existing leaves starts dying (if you don't keep up the substrate fertilisers) because it does not easily produce new leaves to keep itself alive.
My other favourite in this "genre": Nuphur japonica (Image source: http://www.israquarium.co.il/ru/Arti..._japonica.html)
![]()
Light green with silky smooth leaves, some would say slimy. Almost no algae grows on the leaves. Not even BBA. It grows via a creeping rhizome, so it WILL move across your tank. It took only one year plus to move from the left of my six foot tank to the middle. It grows long deep roots, so it was extremely difficult and super messy to uproot, shorten the rhizome and relocate back to original location. When tore down the tank, it had roots as long as 3 to 4 feet... basically, it stretched its roots as far as they could go.
If I use it in my next tank, its going into a pot! But I worry that might stunt its growth.

Vinz...I remove it for you without a big mess in the tank for a fee...![]()

Vinz, the plant in the picture is so green almost like fake. Super nice.
Fish keeping is not a good hobby unless you received support from your family to keep them.
haha.... i'm worries now that the 4th surface leaves have grown... anyway i'm growing it in ADA soil. think will not have a problem with not enough fertiliser for the next year or so?
just worried that it will spread too far that it is fighting with nutrients with other plants..

@armagaddon....I did....search my recent posting and its there (hint)....
However with the Nuphur Japonica....it leaves a trail of Rhizome bulb behind pretty much like a Yam Plant....You need to have patients to trace out the whole rhizome...the rest is the same method as removing an Echinodorus that I have shared. Do know that the plant will be condemned.
Beautiful plant the Nuphur Japonica for its leaf shape, color and pattern variations on the leaves....but the rhizome....Its a really killer to remove...not for the impatient and definitely not for the planter who loves to re-scape every 8 months or so.

Just been to c328, there are 3 water banana on sale... They place it on the tray instead of usual hanging. Go grab. Rare banana... Lol
Erctheanda bro, very nice red tiger lotus u have. So if you cut the floaters, you manage to let it grow submerge leaves?

Thanks for the compliment benny. Yes. I shifted the plant out of the non Co2 tank.
Trimmed off the roots, trimmed off leaves, left 2 shorter leaves intact.
When i see new leaves, i trimmed off the old ones. when i trim, i trim all the way to the soil.
I am not sure what i do is correct, but thats what i have been doing all the while...
I am balding but i am still young!
If all floaters, I just leave 2 competely open floaters. For every new leaf that starts to open, i trim away one of the old ones. You just need to do it for a few leaves and the rest will start to "obey". LOL.

I'm trying to imagine a red tiger lotus in a 40cm... maybe can. 2 inch substrate and it has to be the main plant. Have to induce to grow lots of medium leaves. That can be done by controlling its substrate fertilisers.
