well, you see many people selling their scratched tank in the marketplace for a fraction of the original price. what do you say?
there is no way to remove the scratches, but only ways to make the scratch not so obvious. (unless you're talking about buffing or replacing the glass panel)
10cm long is fine... i had a 20+cm long one. oh well. life goes on and i learn not to be so anal about it. focus more on the scape rather than equipment!
On another note, lets say if I have large rocks that needs placement in the aquarium. Does anyone tie it with sponge ay the bottom to prevent it from scratching or damaging the base?

Its said that toothpaste can help to conceal light scratches, but for deep scratches its best to go polish it, at the price of compromised strength of the glass. No harm trying with toothpaste and if the result is bad, just wipe it off with a damp piece of cloth.
Tried before on my tank, no difference.
Maybe the difference you can see, is if you use the toothpaste to "clear" the blur from your car headlights. The scratches are so fine that it seems to be a blur rather than scratches.
Maybe you can give it a try and see if you can make the scratches go away? If you can, you can start buying used tanks and polish them to make them seem like new hahaha

If the scratch is too severe to repair, maybe you can consider just re-positioning the tank around so that the scratched side is now facing the back, and the unscratched side is facing the front... also a good opportunity to do a re-scape too.![]()
I read about that too.... it will be quite a hassle because my background is black oyama,
my tank is euro brace and the tank sit in the cabinet with 12mm glass.
In order to reposition the tank i have to remove everything from the tank including the sand
and lift up the tank because it sit in the cabinet,it is not like turning and sliding it to the other direction.
I will try to the toothpaste first this week on my next water change routine,if it is still not good i will go for
cerium oxide. If all else fails then bo pienlive with it. It irritate me because the scratch is smack right in the
middle of the tank.
Try jewellery polishing paste. I use it to polish the scratches off my induction hop

Are we talking about the inside or outside the tank?

The way I see it, just leave it alone. Experience has led to a saying 'Lu Cho Lu Cham' local dialect for 'The More You Do, The Worse It Gets'...better a 10cm scratch than a 12cm diameter of blur spot....

Look at the bright side just place a nice piece of bogwood to obscure the scratch and do a kick *** scape that looks so good that no one pays attention to the scratch...![]()

Will you consider giving this a try?
Hi Concave
Its a informative video, however, the problem with the video is that he is working on a 2 dimensional plane while tank is a 3 dimensional plane which is harder to work with. Most if not all the time, scratches are mostly on the inside of the aquarium and decommissioning the whole tank just to attend to scratches may not be a good idea.

The key is prevention. Most scratches happened either with an Algae scrapper or hardscape rock positioning.
Which is way I love the JBL glass scrapper. It has a soft pad. Place it flat in the glass and glide it. The angle is just right and because the head is just about 1.5in it can also be used across the tank with no issue.
As for rock scape repositioning, I bought those hard plastic place mat and insert it into the tank for protection.

The common type ...placement mats for table to put your plate on so you don't dirty the table type of mat.
