some update on my 3ft tank. Lose all my bolbitis due to the fern diseases, and these javas are the new batches since the first all rotted.

I'm sure you are still working on the tank, the green is too monotonous now, too much of the same shade

I like the open space. The Harlequins looks good in the green tank.
How about some bare driftwood/ branches to break the monotonous green?

I just gotta ask this. I see a stream of bubbles emerging from the centre of your tanks. What is it? O2,CO2, air? And how did you create the effect? Thanxs and a great tank you have there.

good idea! but that will probably mean quite a bit of rescaping. let me look out for some beautiful driftwood.

thats O2. The ferns, tenellus produces a lot of bubbles during photosynethsis. You can get that with appropriate fertilization, adequate lighting and correct CO2 injection. :P

of course, 'injuired' plants will produce bubbles from their wounds too.

    Hi Lorba,
I'm curious, what made the 1st batch of your javas rot away and what's this fern disease? Also what are the symptoms that you saw? I do see some of my java leaves "rotting" and can't figure out what's the cause.

    Hi Lorba,
I assume your tank height is not more than 40 cm, then I suggest to add grey(blue) river stone rather than wood. The grey-blue stone can deliver other nice effect on your bushy layout.
Also you can add any red color plant to enrich the outlook, maybe echinodorus red rubin narrow leaves can be an option?
    Success for you..
    Cheers,

Oops sorry, if you really plan to put red rubin narrow leaves, then the perfect place i think is fornt right position. So you still can create depth effect with existing plants.
    Cheers,

just my puny input, but from what i read in a very old book, "Natural Aquarium" Available at the TPY library, it mentioned that the fern disease is caused by high summer temperatures and the disease will even spread. personally, after reading it, i cut away the black and rotting ferns and due to the recent cooler weather, the ferns are sprouting plantlets.

interestingly, the book also mentioned that ferns are indigenious of highly oxygenated water, anyone care to verify?

Wow, the updated pics looks good. To add to

The java ferns grew well in my my tank with has lots of oxygen bubbles from photosynthesis, which means the water is highly oxygenated, I guess there truth to that statement, good water-current circulation, low temperature also helps.
