I have increased the co2 rate to 3-4 bps for a week but seems like its of no use already. The yamato shrimps definitely not touching or helping out

I have bought the Seachem excel from C328. Should I follow the dosage stated on the bottle or any experts here can give me some advise?

I am quite worried about my little fishes and shrimps. Please do advise.
My routine weekly water changes (ard 20-30%) is on every Sunday. So any advise would be greatly appreciated.

    Thanks in advance!
Ooh.. This is bad, it is not as nice anymore. I believe you might be experiencing from:

    Fuzz Algae

Fuzz algae often shows up on plant leaves giving their edges a slightly fuzzy appearance.

    Causes:
    Nutrient Imbalance – Strive for the following nutrient levels: N (10-20ppm), P (0.5-2ppm), K (10-20ppm), Ca (10-30ppm), Mg (2-5ppm), Fe (.1ppm).
Low CO2 – Strive for 20-30ppm concentration of CO2, as permitted by fauna.

    Cure:
    Maintain proper nutrient/CO2 levels
Algae Crew – Siamese Algae Eaters (SAE), Amano shrimp, Otocinclus, and Mollys are known to eat this algae.

Some algae, after you are doing the right thing will not disappear immediately. Once you cut their source, they will die off slowly. Give it some time. I believe it will disappear. Remember your frequent water change.

Wow... how did it get from a nice layer of fuzzy algae to full-on super thick fuzzy algae coverage in just a week!

I usually leave this type of algae to grow on wood and rocks in my tanks, but so far they've only grown on just a few scattered random patches and mainly in small tufts.

Did you happen to do any significant changes to your tank over the span of the past week? Just wondering what could be the trigger for this algae to bloom so quickly.

Spot dosing Excel is fine for algae that is not growing on surface of the plants. Yamato shrimps are effective but not advisable to introduce if plants are not securely rooted.

no, i did not introduce new plants or chemicals into the tank. Nerite snails are not eating the algae also. thus my only options now is to spot dose excel when doing my weekly water change on tomorrow.
its growing too fast for me to ignore anymore haha

Hi TS, welcome to the algae grower club....lol

you can spot dose diluted excel onto algae and repeat the process every alternate days. Avoid dosing directly onto fauna. Dosage: follow seachem directions, dilute the excel solution with tank water 1 part water+1 part excel...e.g 10ml excel+10ml water

This algae is very soft and grows naturally onto rocks and drifwoods... You can try to pull them out manually too...then transplant them onto the other rocks or dw(hehe, they look too nice to throw away)

I think you dosed too much fertilizer/ too much light and the other plants are not able to absorb the nutrients fast enough, thus welcome to the algae grower club. However do not worry...

To help to solve your issue, we need more information

    Type of Soil
    Ammonia,nitrite,nitrate level(if possible)
    Fertilizer regime
    Lights setup and photoperiod regime
How many days since you setup
    Full tank picture
List of plants (if possible) if not at least a FT picture.

Check out my Blog on planted tank, good for newbies ( i am lazy to retype all the info i know, so please click and read below link... i hope you don't fall asleep while reading)
