get 2215. I use 2215 for 60x30x36 which is smaller than your tank.

I am buying a new tank and restarting everything over again. 1 years experience has taught me much.
Will be getting a 2 x 1.5 x 1.5 tank which equates to 120L
Was torn between a 2213 or a 2215.
Funds allow me either and I am just wondering which one is a better option. Will 2215 be an overkill?
Also if you have other interesting filters to recommend along with this price do let me know. Thanks

If your tank is around 120 litres, with the Eheim 2215 listed 620 l/ph flow rates, it would only be around 5x turnover of the tank volume. Still okay for most tanks, but might not be as optimal once you add more media and it starts to slow over time.
Perhaps consider the next model up, the 2217? It does 1,000 l/ph flow rates so abit better for your tank size... though with the faster flow rate and your narrower 2ft tank length, you might still have to tune down the flow to avoid creating a "washing machine" effect... or consider using wider mouth or bubble shaped glass lily pipes to help diffuse the current while still allowing for max flow output.

I see, so 2217 is actually still recommended? Hmm interesting. I am ok with the price of 2217 too but seriously thought it was total overkill in terms of current produced. Thinking of hooking up the output with an inline or external co2 diffuser. Will that spoil the filter over time?

Inline or external CO2 diffuser will not spoil the filter as long as you put at the outlet. If you put on the inlet, there is possibility of airlock.

Thanks for the advice then. Trying to source for a good external co2 diffuser. 6 - 7 years back, some people DIYed and sold these but I havent seen them around anymore.

I would recommend 2217. If you find it too strong, you can use double taps to turn it down. As flow slows down over time, you can open up the taps to maintain your optimum flow rate.
2215 might be just right in the beginning, but over time the flowrate would drop due to it being clogged up, or other reasons. Use a 2217, with the extra flowrate, you can afford to hook up chillers, reactors etc should you want to do so in the future.

noted. Thanks for the advice. Was looking at Fluval too but reviews have stated that the 221X series are one helluva canister. Doesnt spoil easily. As such I will go for EHeim instead then.

I went to check out C328 this morning. They are charging 2 different prices for with or without media. Do I go with media or not? price difference is about 25 bucks.
Also, they recommended 2215 for my 2 ft tank though. So do i go with 2217 and double taps or just 2215 and double taps?

I personally would recommend the ecco pro 300 for 2ft. Comes with media already and lower wattage than a 2217
What type of media does it provide? If it is just the sponge, then can forget about it. Personally I will get a canister without media included. I have a 3 to 4 bag of brand new substate pro I have never used which are included in my Eheims, though they are good media. That's personal choice.
You may want to compare the cost for other media you need to fill the Eheim compare to price difference that includes the media.
I will go for a large over rate eheim with double taps. If happen that you want to upgrade the tank size, there is no headache to resell the eheim. If your tank scape like those that is densely growth with plant and drifted wood, higher flow is preferred. If you want to attach additional chiller, plus UV, plus inline CO2 injector, plus fine glandular media type. You will need higher flow filter to compensate the flow rate drop.
Ultimately, it also depends on the budget.

hmmm. Ok noted. I will do the 2217 then.
Can afford and just go ahead buy the double taps as well. I can reuse some of my filter media from the current external filter. Thanks for the help.![]()
