i just started my filterless tank today.. with the fertilizer and sand.. and some plants that i presumed to be hortwarts.. hahaha.. btw, did i spell it correctly.. coz the way i spell it seems like a kinda sexually disease..

ok.. not enuff plants.. and i have 2 leopard cories swimming inside to cycle the tank...

    problem now..
1.water is cloudy.. will it go away??
2.those brownish bubbles that congregate on top of the water level, how to remove them?? coz me dun have a surface skimmer..
    3. do i need to include more plants now?? coz the irritating side of slightly cloudy water.. mars my views.. sigh..

can go and get a bunch of cabomba to soak up any excess nutrients etc for the moment. Dont need much lights until your plants are in.

It's good to buy a surface skimmer. Or you can do it manually using a fishnet. Read that Molly will eat off these surface scum too.

The important thing to add in some "quick-growing" plants to absorb the extra nutrient in the tank. As hwchoy mentioned, cabomba is a good choice.

brownish bubbles mean you have a serious problem
the last time i had bubbles under surface scum that colour was when the tank was seriously screwed and i lost quite a few fish
    do water changes immediately
skim off the top layer, or use a skimmer
once the skimmer clears the layer, wash out your media

Eh, what kind of cheapo fert you use? I used the JBL and even though it reminded me of my Marsiling days (you know how the corporal like to shout "enemy on the left" just as you're passing one of those MASSIVE piles of farm manure [] [] ) it does not smell at all!
