    went to the supermarket today, wanting to buy baking soda but found out there are several types...

    - bicarbonate of soda
    - baking powder

    but no baking soda....is baking soda=baking powder??

    can bicarbonate of soda be used as well...??

    yup use bicarbonate of soda, not baking powder.

    Baking Soda = Bicarbonate of Soda = Sodium bicarbonate = Na(HCO3)2
    Baking Powder = Baking Soda plus some other stuff.

    If you are going to make DIY CO2 only, either one works as well.

    However, if you want to add it to your tank to increase kH, then use only Baking Soda. Baking Powder will cloud your tank.
