    hmm.. blue...

I do know that adding some anti fungus/white spot medication turns the whole tank blue, often staining everything inside too. Perhaps that will work (at least until it molts)? :P

Alternatively, get those colored transparent stickers and stick them over your front glass pane. You can have any color shrimp you like then.

On a more serious note, shrimps are known to reflect the colors of their diet. Those feeding on wood will be more dull in color. Perhaps you can try some color enhancing food.

    Cheers,
I have dwarf cichlids in my tanks! Do you?

I had the most colourful bunch of malayans when I had an absolute BBA disaster in my tank. They are amazingly coloured with red, blue, maroon, green, turquoise and black.

Perhaps you can try a small tank, overfeed it and get it overblown with BBA and see if the shrimps acquire rainbow hues?

    ps: I am not kidding.
why I don't do garden hybrids and aquarium strains: natural species is a history of Nature, while hybrids are just the whims of Man.

    Hi hi,

Got comments on this topic. From what I saw of my malayan shrimps, they seem to blend in into the surrounding they live in. When I put in bluish coloured rocks, many of them turned into a bluish colour. When its drift wood, they turned into brown or red in colour. Very interesting creatures. Just my 2 cents worth and observations!

    Cheers,
    Weng

willy, you want crazy colours there's always artificial colourants. I have some black Malayans in one of my tanks. I have no idea why they're that colour. I've seen these black Malayans at a friend's place too. I have red and blue Malayans in my main tank. Its dependent on their diet. There's foods like colour enhancing tablets and pellets in the market. Might give you your crazy colour. Or, like Benny has said, pour in some methylene blue and you get a dyed blue shrimp.
