hmm... do know which is my category. I spend only for those that can give me result. For example, I wont buy those ADA 5 power which does not give any noticeable better result compare to without it. On the other hand I do buy ADA equipment like scissor, pinset, etc although it does not make my scape better but it give me satisfaction feeling.

Hmmm. Isn't that a dangerous mindset? I spend what I can spare, end of the month.. I am too stingy!

similarly, DIY that can do stuff nothing in retail gives the best feeling... (like the people who put a breaker box in cabinet with digital timer. plus full pvc piping.)

DIY need to constantly try and do if not will rusty.

Red face Re: What Kind of Planted Tank Hobbyist are you? Part 1 : Expenditure

I am in the process to setup an office planted tank after a long while. Have move past DIY but wanted to enjoy the setup process. Was struggling how to start.

CO2 System: Played with DIY many years ago. I still feel lack of knowledge, the fuss and time which i am willing to compensate with money. Shop for like an hour among various LFS shops and found a small complete CO2 kit at reasonable price and bought it immediately.

Key elements: Smaller size, Complete quick setup kit, professional looking, Value Price

Tank: I wanted a long but small tank. There was a promotion for the same brand by at least 4 shops along the same street. Price deviate between around 35% for the same piece. It pays to shop around when they are all located in same area.

Key elements: Elongated size, Quality sealing and clarity, Value Price

Substrate:Lack of knowledge on what best. Just wanted for planted and black. Got the cheapest for 35% less.

Key elements: Look professional,Marketed for planted, Value Price again.

I'll buy to the best that I can afford.....If I cannot, I will save up for it rather than compromise.
