Hi AQ! I’ve just took my first step into the planted tank hype. Hence, fairly new to everything. This is the aquarium I’m currently having. Certainly do hope for everyone to feedback and hopefully, I would be able to create a better aquarium to beautify.

    Tank Dimension : 23x11x19(inch)
    Current Lightings: Aquazonic T5 4x24W (6pm – 9pm)
    CO2 injection: 1bps (7am-8pm)
Currently Dosing fertilisers every week after 30% water change

    Live:
    10 Cardinal Tetras
    Many guppies
    Many Cherry Shrimps
    1 Yamato Shrimp
3 Ottocinlus ( Can only see 2 most of the time)
    1 Siamese Algae Eater
    3 Nerite Snails

    Plants:
    Cabomba
    Riccia
    Java moss
    Glosso

    An Overview of the tank

Anyone know what kind of algae is this?

I squinted my eyes.. cannot make it out.. is it the grey coloured ones?
When you pull it out (gently), does it have hair strands or 1 jelly like thing?

feel its cyanobacteria. or mould or hair algae..

    I may be wrong.
I am balding but i am still young!

Thanks Colin! Not sure about the condition though.

However I'm thinking of changing it to the ADA Amazonia soil. As well as perhaps adding more plants and hard scape like the dragon rocks there.

What for? I don't think it is a good idea if tank is not plagued with problems, algae, etc. It took awhile to cycle a tank. Change is not good for fish tank. Fish never likes it. However, water change is important. Don't get me wrong.

@colin: It just seem like the plants ain't growing well. Furthermore I would prefer my shrimps to look more distinctive as compared to the black background. My glosso ain't growing as healthy though. Anyone has experiences with IKEA timer? I'm planning on getting one as my current timer just spoilt

This tank is already 2-3 months old
however the glosso is approximately 2 weeks old...

I'm actually thinking whether does this mean it requires extra hours of light
    OR
There should be a must to change the gravel to soil

Yup sure. Thanks Berny for the insight.

Do provide feedbacks and ideas to poison me to implement into this aquascape. Any critics would also be greatly appreciated.

after you see runners, trim and replant into empty spots to help fill up tank quickly.

cut and replant cabomba, they look awesome in fluffy bunch! great background and midground plant.
Front right plant can also replanted and grown from cuttings if not mistaken, where they the ones packaged in shrimp bags? If so i "recycled" them before as well, grew fast like hell!

I can't see glosso, lapis color too bright. photo will be hard to see. Maybe stunt die to light source not strong.

your lapis pretty thin btw, did you find it hard to plant?

ikea timer i have 2 units, their sold as a pair. got 1 unit after 1 year plus started to have faults and unable to use, so i switched to the backup unit.

i'm not sure if its due to your typo or someting else but 3hours of lighting is abit short. At least 4hours for the beginning and when everything is stable 6-8 hours will be good.

And your timing for co2 dosing is weird too as it starts so early in the day. I guess you're not on solenoid and doing it manually? If you are on solenoid and timer for co2 try one hour before lights on and off together with lights.

Sorry may I know what are lapis? Yes I did plant the plants from the "shrimp bag" that I bought. They look awesome at first but didn't really like it the moment they started clinging onto all the cabomba around it. In the end everything in that area looked like a beanstalk in my aquarium.

Yes I just bought the timer from IKEA and they worked awesome despite the price. Definitely recommend it to anyone that wants to start using timers.

It wasn't a typo error. It is indeed set at that specific timing because my previous timer spoilt and I had to manually turn on the lights and co2 after I got home from work. Till date, I still have not gotten my solenoid regulator. If anyone knows or happen to have one on sale, do offer me. I'll be glad to deal!

Thank you for the great information. I'll definitely take note of that timing scheme and implement it onto this setup.

Those glosso really look good! I'll try to be patient with these to witness results. Can't wait to see it carpet the entire foreground!

Your plant ID should be rotala macrandra. The moulded stuffs is some kind of fungi from your driftwood.
