create water circulation. I think. no, hof doesn't have enough strength to do so, and the waterfall agitation diffuses co2 out of water

Hmm so you mean that HOF will make co2 injection to waste ?

yes, which is why most people uses canister filter for planted tank, low or no surface agitation. while shrimp tanks usually have low requirement plants due to sponge filter or hof

I think I will need to post a photo of my setup I was able to control my waterfall flow rate but I'm afraid that the water circulation is not there to circulate the co2

    Re: Hof?

For a hang-on-filter to create circulation around the tank, you need to make sure the output ramp of the filter is partially below the water level, so instead of water dropping directly down into the water surface, it should curve and flow across the surface and around the tank in a circular returning pattern.

You can test it by dropping in a semi-floating food pellet and watching it travel in mid-water around the tank, that could give you an idea of the circulation pattern.

Ideally it should move across the top surface, then drop down the opposite side glass wall, travel along the substrate and end up under the filter output, float up, then get pushed across again.

    Re: Hof?

    Hi Ker,
I think your question needs some clarification. are you asking
    1. will HOF given enough circulation for CO2 and other nutrients?
    2. Will HOF diffuse/dissolve enough CO2?
    3. Will HOF preserve enough CO2 in the water column?

    1. HOF circulation, whether or not its enough depends on your tank dimension.
    2. I suggest not depending on your HOF for CO2 dissolution. run the output of the HOF towards the CO2 diffuser if you are using one. this will disrupt water flow near the water flow. there are people who believe that will improve CO2 dissolution. I am one of those.
    3. to preserve CO2 in the water, you need to ensure KH is low, water temp is low and surface agitation is kept minimal.

Please also include things like how many bubbles per sec and water volume, tank dimensions as we cannot tell from the tank pic.

Hope it will be of help.

    Re: Hof?

HOF can circulate water, due to the design of water flowing out like a waterfall from the "Lip" there is alot of Co2 lost there (water to air surface contact ratio affects the exchange of gas mainly oc and co2.)
Put your diffuser at the exit lip's direction so that the down current from hof makes co2 stay longer in water.

If you can, upload a picture to the fourm (gallery or photobucket also do fine) & give as much info as you can about your tank.
It will provide more insight & bros here will find it easier to give you more accurate advice.

psst, don't worry nice or not. we all been through not so pretty tanks.

You'll be using the in-tank electrolysis/carbon cartridge system? I saw that at LFS before but wasn't sure how well it works... do post a review on it. Looks interesting.

Looks like Sicce did a better job then JEBO, i see got powerhead inside.
Questions, when you bought it or rather where you bought it from. Did they sell the replacement plates & were they affordable?

Just for reference here's the jebo unit picture vs the Sicce picture. (you can google and make yourself happy)

    Re: Hof?

IMHO, HOF is good for small tanks, im currently using a 2041 Eheim Liberty on a GEX "S" tank. Water filled to the brim, HOF tuned to half output and pumping CO2. Plants grew well and pearling In the end, it boils down to how/what you thing is suitable for your setup.

    Advice from boss Felix

Hmm can I know the direction of the HOF and the co2 ?
