    Hello all,

I have a lily pipe that measures 18mm ID but my filter is a eheim 2213 with 12mm ID tubes,

In order to have the lilys, i can either put the tube inside the lily with no leaks, or i can use an reductor adapter to use the 18mm tube and the 12mm tube,

But i dont know if having 50cm of the 18mm tube on each direction will make the water flow suffer since it will have diferent inside diameters,

I only tested the system with the 12mm tube inside the lily and the water flow and pressure didnt change, but having a total of 1meter of 18mm tube could make the flow too slow,

Since i dont have experience on this, and i dont wanna spend unnecessary money on tubes and adapters, i ask for help of hose who understand this better.

    cheers

In the first place, why did you not buy the lily pipe set of your filter hosing diameter?

First, never use two different pipe diameter without any adaptor. Should the pipe loosen at the outlet point, good luck to you as all your tank water is going to be pumped all over the floor.

Second, you can use the adaptor just before the lily pipe and inlet pipe. You need not have to use such a long hose.

The flow rate in and out of your filter reminds the same. What you may lose is pressure needed for water circulation in your tank.

This being said the lost is marginal.

i dont think it changes the flow bro.
as long as the diameter is the same. is a closed tube anyway.
    Q1.A1 = Q2.A2
where A is surface output of hose1 and Q is flow1
    and so on
    no length in the formula

Yeah, using larger ID hoses will just make the output current abit gentler, but the amount of water filtered will still be the same, so no issues with that. Just that the circulation of water around the tank would tend to be less strong.

The only issue i can see if you use a large ID lily pipe is it might look abit oversized for your tank (ie. 2ft or smaller tank)... but if you are using a larger tank (ie. 3ft or larger tank) which matches the large lily pipe size, then maybe that canister filter might be too small to handle filtration for that tank size.

Yes, i thought on that too, even if it seems tight now, its always more probable to loose this way than the regular way!

Second, you can use the adaptor just before the lily pipe and inlet pipe. You need not have to use such a long hose. Well the difference is 3mm, so it isnt that big of a difference, and i wouldnt use the adaptor directly on the lily for 2 reasons, 1 is that it doesnt fix well, stays loose, and 2 its ugly and would spoil the porpouse of a lily pipe on 1st place.

Thanks guys, now i understand it better,
I will just use enough 15mm hose to make it on the side of the forniture so the adaptor inst visible, so 20cm in each side should suffice,

It does look a bit oversized, specially because the outlet lily has to be a little up the aquarium, but i dont mind, its pretty even so hehe

My only problem now is the dual Beamswork led that i have, since it occupies most of the open tank space lol, i had to make some modifications on the trial.

Oh and the tank is 2 ft

I made a video of the flow when i tested the tube inside lily,
What do you guys think of the flow?
Dont mind the tube inside lily, now i know what to do, this is just to show the flow pressure that i have right now.

a bit on the low pressure side .....for 60cm tank? it all depends on the blockage of the hardscape and the breathe and depth of the tank.

The tank will be planted, not heavily but will have a decent amount of plants,
The depth is around 16-20cm in the lowest part,

But yeah, there inst much movement with that lily, and day by day i see it just too big for my tank and im still on time to a refund and order a smaller one :/
