Can use this ?
Not sure is this a right question to ask.
Is there such thing as a safe and effective type of grease to coat at the big rubber external filter oil ring at the cover to easier to fit onto the filter?
Of course we can't use those rubber grease for industrial purpose because it's not safe for fish.
anyone can assist?

From another thread. Scuba divers use the ikelite lubricant for their o-rings, so definitely salt water safeAnd only costs $2 in dive shops for 4 x 1cc tubes according to the scubasg link.
Yes, can use the Vaseline in your picture. Just apply a thin coat on the o-ring and maybe on walls of canister where the o-ring sits will be good.

Is it necessary to grease the o ring in the 1st place? Singapore is quite humid, unless you do not touch the canister for a very long time or place it is a hot place, during the filter maintenance the oring should be wet before it cracks right?

O rings are usually the first to go and the first suspect when leaks happen. Better to spend $2 to be safe then spend $30 replacing an eheim o ring! Eheim canisters do come with a pack of "Vaseline"
O-rings have shelf life span. Using oil to lubricate the o-ring will extend its life span.
Thanks a lot for the help.
Okay, thanks for the info. So how often should it be? Every filter maintenance?

I rather use the Ehiem ones. I used others and it leaves oily film in the water for a while.
