Eheim 2213/250 Priming advice?

Hi, I have more or less decided on an Eheim 2213/250 but would like advice from members about priming.

I watched a Eheim priming video on youtube which said you suck on the outlet pipe and when the syphon effect is working, quickly put your thumb on the outlet pipe to stop the flow briefly, and then put it into the tank.

If I have the ball shaped lily pipe with 2 side openings, then i don't think I can use this method. How would I prime a Eheim Classic in this case?

Fill the inlet hose with water and the canister with water as well. Hang both the inlet and outlet in the correct positions in the tank. Make sure turn the double tap off first. Then when you are ready, turn on the tap and the filter. Gravity and pressure will allow the inlet to draw more water from the tank into the canister and Voila! you are done!

By the way, I do not believe in sucking the hose.. its disgusting...

When you say you fill the inlet hose with water, do you disconnect the inlet hose from the filter first using quick release and bring it to a tap to fill it up or some other method?

I usually suck using syphon pump. those squeeze type one.
suck syphon, once water runs, close and disconnect. then connect to the filter.
i dont use 2213 but my jebo doesnt prime by itself. and pressing the button with empty hose is riddicoulus.

Just get a short length of 9/12 hose, angle one end through the "spin" pipe's side gaps and and hold it inside the glass outlet, then suck on the hose to start the siphon.

There is an easier way.

I use this for all my eheim classic.

I put all my pipes in their desired position.

I get a power head and attach it to the inlet.

For your case, the ball inlet with 2 openings, cover one opening and blast water in through the other hole.

Once water goes in through the inlet, the rest is no problem!

get a power head that is at least 1200L/hr.

Sorry did not answer earlier. I use 2 double taps. 1 at the inlet and 1 at the outlet.

Fill the canister with water. Close the double tap on the inlet side. Take out the inlet and detach from double tap. Fill that one with water and then close the double tap. Reattach the double tap. Turn on filter. As the filter is running, no water is moving because both double taps are still closed. Open the outlet first then open the inlet tap. You will be able to see the canister pump the water already.

thanks for all the very useful advice. i just got my 2213, have tested it using a pail of clean tap water and using the sucking technique to prime it, look forward to trying the alternative methods when setting it up for my tank!

For your info in case anyone does not know.

Eheim is selling the Installation Set to overcome the problem of priming their canister filter. To prime the canister filter, simply unscrew the cap on this equipment and pour water in it. A funnel would help those who has a shaky hand syndrome while pouring water into a small opening scenario. Once the canister filter as well as the inlet and outlet hose tube are full of water, simply screw back the cap and switch on the power for the canister filter.

A note though, not compatible with the use of those fancy smancy glass outlet inlet thingy. But with a couple of additional hose quick release connector, could be done.
