To make Hairgrass grow faster, you can do the following
1. trim off the tips, i don't recommend this.
I have done this before, the trimmed portions do adapt faster then the non trimmed patches, but some of the trimmed portions melted
2. maintain water at 26 degrees, put fert in soil, phosphates in the water and maintain 30ppm CO2, with good amount of light.
That being said, this works for all root feeder plants.
3. increase patience. If no algae is growing and you see runners (albeit slowly), just wait?
I go with option 3. and now my carpet is slowly developing.
@Naraki i like your signature, but hor... butter is not water!
I am balding but i am still young!
Normally hairgrass will start to grow alot alot of runners from day 28 onwards. At least that occurs for me. I am using:
- ADA Amazonia for substrate
- 1 pump of ADA Brighty K daily
- Lighting: I have got a total of 96W (which consist of 2 sets of 2x24W (T5))
- CO2 at 2.5bps.
Today, my hairgrass is growing pretty well with occassion trimming. Like what Eric mentioned, increase the level of patience and you will see results.![]()

Depends on which species of Hair Grass...if its the Dwarf Hair Grass it could take some time.

Not sure if mine are drawf? How do you actually differentiate them? Is it only after they are fully grown?

mine is japanese hairgrass. the longer ones do curl. i'm keeping them together with my crs shrimps - so I'm mindful of what I add into the tank.
For the root fertilizer, any recommendations? How do I insert into the soil
Those should grow relatively fast. I don't understand. Are you not having some form of base fertilizer like ADA soil or its similar type?

Recent studies shows that putting recent studies in your statement have a higher percentage of trust people put into your recent studies. What?
im using ADA amazonia powder type.
Not dosing excel as I heard bad reviews/effects on the CRS. Trace yet, but minimal. Sadly, my CRS are not mating nor berrying...
