suggest you go for ohf rather then canister for terrapins
Hi everyone.
I'm a proud owner of 2 massive Red Eared Slider terrapins and I've finally saved up enough money to buy a new filter. I'm planning to get the API/Rena Filstar XP4 filter. I'm quite lazy to go and hunt around SG for shops that sell this filter so I'm planning to buy it straight off Amazon. Problem is, I'm not familiar with online shopping, and especially with buying such a bulky big item. Will Singpost still deliver the item to my doorstep or must I employ some courier service(No clue how to do this either) or do I have to pick it up somewhere?
Thanks for your help

If you purchase US$125 and above from amazon.com, you get free delivery to Singapore. However, when you purchase any electronic stuffs from Amazon.com, do note the voltage of the equipment you are getting. Majority of them are of 110V. Butt the voltage in Singapore is of 240V. Never, never plug a 110V equipment into a 240V point, you will fry the equipment. Therefore, you will need to purchase also a step-down transformer. When you purchase the step-down transform, you will then need to note the wattage, always purchase a step-down transformer of wattage sufficient of 1.5 times the required wattage.
i.e. Required wattage is 10W, you will need to get a transformer of 15W.
Most canister filter will require around 10W to 20W, but please check carefully. Therefore, a 100W transformer will be more than enough to support your filter.

Why not try F&M, East Ocean or Fishy Business online stores? Just a suggestion.![]()
Concave is right, electronics from US will require a step up transformer.
For online purchase you have to take note of the shipping cost which is expensive when it is from the US.
Yes, amazon will deliver to SG through USPS via singpost(the cheapest that i know of) or you can request for other courier company eg DHL,UPS ( a bit more ex)
For singpost,if you missed the delivery, you have to collect it at the nearest post office near your district. They usually do not do redelivery for bulky items
unless the seller use speedpost(cost a little bit more) which you can call and reschedule the delivery.
IMHO i would rather go for brand like Ehiem which is readily available here and with spare parts that are easily available.
Here is a link from ebay for API filter plus shipping to singapore. Do compare the prices from amazon.

Just to note for ordering items from Amazon... the global free shipping (for USD$125 and above purchases) deal is only valid for certain products, not all are eligible for the deal (usually its due to the item being too heavy or bulky).
If what you are buying is not eligible for global free shipping, just do a test order and check the international shipping cost, then can consider if the extra cost is worth ordering from overseas instead of buying locally.
Thank you everyone for the info, helped me a lot regarding the pros and cons of buying online.

Hi all,
Sorry for jumping in, anyone know where can we get API/Rena Filstar XP-M in Singapore and best if someone know the price range.
As i am facing similar dilemma as Meldrick7 as whether to get their filter on amazon or not.
And anyway this filter doesn't fit for free delivery despite it stated in amazon its a " global free shipping" item" as i am still been charged shipping cost when i arrived at the summary page.
