Small cans of CO2? Do you mean the smaller sizes of the pressurised cylinders or do you mean the ones that look like spraycans (like insecticide).
The small pressurised cylinders - yes you can regulate the flow easily if it has a good regulator and needle valve. Initially you'll need to put down about $150 or less, but in the long run its top ups of $15 to $20 every few months or so.
The spraycan ones - cannot be regulated and you have to release the gas into the dispenser daily. You'll probably have to buy a new can every few weeks or so - check with the LFS. Not econmical in the long run, IMO.

Ok, wonder y there's those CO2 systems with no regulator and yet expensive to run in the long run.. everyone might as well get a cylinder system..
there are always people who wants to try something out.
such solution may be expensive in the long run but cheap for short-term.
