Hi people, I went to Wuhu today and saw some interesting killifishes. They don't look like the usual nothobranchius, fundulopanchax or aphyosemion you see in most LFSs. Anyway here are some pictures, if anybody is interested can go down to take a look. I have no idea what species they are though, maybe the experts can ID.

    Type 1:

Type 2: (Sorry the pic of this is not very good)

Type 3: (this looks like a Notobranchius?? Female possibly as its rather drab)

Did a brief search online, I believe the first is simpsonichthys constanciae? Killi experts please correct me if I am wrong.

You're right about the first one, only thing is, it's not Simpsonichthys anymore. This genus is now restricted to a few species. Should be Ophthalmolebias constanciae. The 2nd one is Nothobranchius fuscotaeniatus and the last one, I'm guessing it is Nothobranchius rubripinnis and it looks more like a stressed male. Saw them at C328 last week too. I think they share the same supplier...

Yea I realised when I went to C328 today, guess they are not that unique afterall. Oh I didn't know the second one was a nothobranchius too, to my untrained eye it looked a little like an austrolebias or aphanius, but I sort of realised that I was not going to find such rare stuff in an LFS.

So far, I've only seen properly labelled killies and some rarer ones, like the Poropanchax brichardi at GC, which I'm still looking for. They were sold in either pairs or trios, along with brichardi, of which I regretted not buying any, which is a pity, as I couldn't find them anywhere, not even on Aquabid.

Aphanius mento arrived on our shores many years ago. However, these fish needed a winter phase to survive and the males were highly aggressive, as they all are. I only saw one live male, because according to the shopkeeper, it killed the female that was with it.

Where I live now, it's too warm to breed any killies. I can only breed a few easier ones but because of space constraint, I've narrowed down to the killies shown on my signature below, the ex-rivulus mahdiaensis and xiphidius as well as the stunning annual, Renova oscari. However, these will only be possible once I move to a new apartment and have a few chiller tanks for them. The thing is, getting the eggs to travel to Singapore will be a lot more tricky.

Right now, trying to breed the Anabantoids is my top priority.

i have some N. Rachovia and Korthauasae eggs on hand. Wanna try them ? easy to keep and breed. they accept temp from 24c to 30c. if you'd like i could send you a pdf file for Rachovia, and in the groups i mentioned, they sell/give eggs and the fish itself too

I'm not interested in getting any annuals anymore except for Renova oscari but even so, I can't get this species because I am planning to use my tanks for the anabantoids. Like I've said earlier, I'm only interested in the ones mentioned on my signature below.

    Hi there!

I know this is an old thread but I've but trying really hard to get killifish but it's an awfully expensive process for me given my country's exchange rate, so could you advice me on some people that give free eggs? I can cover PnP for sure but I'd rather not spend more than 9$ total, I'm sorry I understand how I sound like one of those annoying newbies who wants good stuff for free :/ Please forgive that, I'm just out of options here plus I've been trying very hard to obtain killies for a year and 6 months now. Do help me out folks

For help on this, you can try on Facebook. Search for Killifish Exchange etc. There are groups for this. Some people do send eggs to others for free, or look on Aquabid for auctions that offer free shipping and handling. If you just want a random killie, India is home to some Aplocheilus species, most of which are not exactly common except for A. lineatus, the Golden Wonder Panchax. They are just as wonderful as any other killie and real easy to take care of too.

Wow! I am truly grateful to you Sir/ Mam! The information and the links in reply to both my posts are excellent! Seriously, thank you so much!

Yes I am aware of lineatus, I've even been on a collection trip and bagged 6 or so of the original/ wild ones (not the golden selective bred as many people assume it originally is) it was a fun trip, but A. lineatus really doesn't appeal to me Killifish really appeal to the artist in me so I love killies that have a melange of colors- Fundulopanchaxes and Scripts are my present favorite genii (hope that's the right word). With the lineatus I really didn't feel the crazy attraction I feel toward the beauty and grace of other killies, this is, however, just my preference I'm sure there's other's that would disagree.

I've never really come across a free shipping and handling deal in the killies section on AB and I do frequent it!

I'm signing up at that forum as I type this, will try to get eggs from them one I secure a safe payment method.

I'm really like AQ so far Quality advice! Keep it up guys!
