    Hi all,

I'm new to the hobby.. Got sucked into the world of planted tanks 2 months after bumping around in youtube and chanced upon a video on iwagumi aquascapes. I got captivated by it's simplicity and beauty.. so I got myself a 1ft tank and started the adventure. Started with hairgrass and glosso, and oh boy, do they grow like nobody business!

After much research, I've decided to get another 3ft tank... and try my luck on hc carpet.. it's been almost 2 weeks, so far so good! hopefully they will start creeping soon!

    Re: Hello all!

Thank you! I think glosso is definitely the recommended carpet for beginners. Doing hc on my 3ft.. taking far too long

hmmm... DIY CO2 until 2/3 of the ground is covered.. oh, I also use garden soil (those cheap ones from NTUC) below my ADA amazonia. No need for fertilization.

The light I'm using is a cheap aquazonic led.

Noted! Ya, I guess that's the main con of using garden soil.

    Re: Hello all!

nice low tech. hair grass and glosso?

hc is abit more tricky, with enough lighting.. once roots established it will grow and spread quite fast.

wow, how come you also know...

hg a little here and there looks really natural & comforting to look at. the beauty of your scape.

everynow and then need to tug some out, else hg can over take glosso and take main stage.

haha, I've been lurking in the forum absorbing knowledge from all you experts and slowly getting myself poisoned!

Thanks for the advice! I can see the hg overshadowing my glosso... the glosso starting to grow upwards!

Good to read more before starting to post (as i also did that )

I've had the exact problem as you have now. I did the wrong thing to trim HG only, should have removed some besides trimming... in the end it's 80% HG / 20% tao gay
