e-ballast is the 'lazy' way for electronic ballast.
it makes use of power electronics to generate the high voltages required to start and run pl or fl tubes.

things you can look out for
    1) e-ballast has a PCB board inside for mounting the electronic components
    2) e-ballast is much lighter than magnetic ballast.
    3) if you lights does not flicker when starting up, it is using e-ballast.

if you do not know electricity, it is not advisable for you to open your light to check if it is e-ballast. electricity is dangerous.

    Advantages of eBallast:
    1) energy saving as it does not generate as much heat as magnetic ballast. And a friend of mine measured that is used less current too.
    2) may extend the life of your light tubes as there is none of the flickering during start-up.

The easiest way to check whether it is a electronic ballast is to see whether there is a starter. Conventional iron-core ballast needs a starter while electronic ones doesn't.

Electronic ballast are also know as electronic control gear.

    hi,
    i have a dymax clip-on light (9w).
mr chan from NA told me that it was e-ballast however, i noticed that the adapter was a plug-in ballast and i am not sure if it is really e-ballast or not.
the conditions of the light satisfy tawauboy terms 2 and 3. so can confirm it is using magnetic ballast? however the light tubes are not hot at all even after 4 hrs.

Regular 9W PL tubes have 2 pins rather than 4. It is normally used with conventional ballasts. I am not sure whether it will work with an e-ballast. (My guess is that it will not.) 9W PL tubes with 2 pins has a built-in starter. It is high chance that you have a conventional ballast.

When we talk about conventional ballast emitting more heat than electronic ones, we are referring to the ballast itseld emitting heat rather than the tubes.

    PL light

Hi, anyone know how to connect the four wire from e-ballast to the PL light holder? I saw four slot there. Is there a 55W e-ballast? The highest I come across is only 40W. Can i use it on my 55W PL? Thanks.

the e-ballast has the connection diagram. just follow it. just treat the pl light holder as the pl light when you are figuring out the connection. however, if you have no idea at all, it would be better to get a qualified electrician to do the job for you.

there is no 55w e-ballast but 58w e-ballast is available. i doubt you are able to drive a 55w pl tube with a 40w e-ballast.

    Re:

For PL55W you have to use EB58W eballast otherwise it will not be effective. under power for your 55Wattage.
