Apart from having to pick them off by hand, is there any recommendation to get rid of the snails in the tank?

    Thks!

Puffer fish will be effective, but pose a danger to your fishes or shrimps when snail population is almost zero.

Manual removal and reduce feeding are the common practice... introducing Clea Helena (aka Assassin Snails) can help control the snail population too.

Yeah, its very tempting to add those cute pea puffers too, but they might get abit snappy towards tank mates.

Re: How to rid tank of snail infestation

    Good day

I have a 5ft planted tank with Discuss. Recently I saw snails and I have been manually removing them.

I cannot push my PH to sub 5. Will adding puffer fish affect my discus?

Presently I have 2 red lizard, 2 ottos and 3 starlight Bristlenose plecos with 10 discus.

    Thank you

Try PH of 6. Puffers might become fin nippers and stress out your discus.

    Good day,

My PH is 7.2 to 7.4!!!!!!

Will adding any chemical to bring down the PH affect my discus?

    Thank you

The fishes you have can do well in low PH. I would avoid chemical as to do the job. Try using Peat...Ehiem sells them to be placed in filter.

Never Lower more than 1 PH point within 24 hours.

You colic consider getting chain loaches....however not easy to find in Singapore.

Re: How to rid tank of snail infestation

If your PH is 6, the snails will not grow big. their shells will melt before they grow. I have a current tank of PH 6, poor snails.. their shells are so soft they basically are jelly like when you squish them.

i would not do anything because i am too lazy because small snails does not affect the view of my tank.

And of course adding assassins to a PH 6 tank will also mean they don't survive well..

The above is my view! I am lazy does not mean you are (or should be)!
I am balding but i am still young!

My 2 cents worth...just leave them alone. They become part of the tank ecology, just like in nature.

I found that putting ghost shrimps solved my snail problem. Problem is that I'm not sure if they're also putting the moves on the fishes as well.
