General guide is 1 luohan for 1 tank, minimum size is 2 feet but bigger is always better and you need excellent filtration. They are highly aggressive for most of the variants so if you intend to keep more than one you will need to divide the tank. Bare bottom or gravel makes no difference, they will dig as and when they want, most would just use a bare bottom setup to suck out the waste that accumulates at the bottom. You cannot mix it with other fish and no plants are required nor is CO2 needed.
You can find luohan at several stores, the cost is dependent on the type and "quality". I do not advocate keeping luohan but if you like them, most stores should have them. I saw some at Y618 and other LFS but you can take your time to check the stocks.
They grow large and are not meant for nano tanks. If you want a cichlid suited for a small tank then a Ram should be fine.
