Yup, fungus infection.
Yup, fungus infection.
You guys think is better to use the "salt Dip" method better or try using a "fungus med" dip????
got a few infected ones in various stages....this shrimp in the photo is a more 'serious' case.....
Think Im gonna try tonight after work....
btw, fungus comes in what colors??...i mostly see white ones....besides this green one.
Where is the fungus on the shrimp? Cannot really see clearly from the picture..
For me I try to maintain clean water, end up some shrimps recovered, some died.
all my shrimps will end up eventually growing so much fungus until it impairs their mobility and they die.![]()
I would say separate the healthy ones with the infected ones. Before you dose anything foreign into the tank. Throw in some catappa leaf depending on your tank size. It produces anti fungal substances
Recent studies shows that putting recent studies in your statement have a higher percentage of trust people put into your recent studies. What?

Update: Aquarium salt dip treatment does not seem to work on my shrimps. Have done it for 2 days with no signs of improvements. One of the shrimps molted in the quarantine tank, but fungus is still visible on the swimmerettes. Wondering if i should try the anti-fungal meds??...... Any thoughts on this???
yesterdy just did a Dip using the medication below for 2.5mins(1 drop in a tau huay tub that is about 1/3 full). Shrimp seems ok,today, but i have not observe closely whether theres any improvement on thier conditions yet.

after 3 more days dip treatment, still no improvements??........sigh it looks incurable.![]()
Hi Guys!..
Its been almost a month since i started with the dip treatment using the above Petfran medication and here is my report:
I did the dip treatment on alternate days for a week using the instructions on the bottle as a guide.
No visible improvements on the fungus.
I got lazy and kind of discouraged, so i just medicated the whole hospital tank(betta tank size) and left them inside all the way.
I checked on them 1 day later with no improvements.(As written on the bottle, the medication gave a dark purple/pink color in the tank but clears up in 24hrs.)
Next day, i decided to change 50% of the water with aged water and dose the medication again.
Saw molted shells with no improvements,
so on and off i have been dosing the medication for about a month(actually i think i only dosed 3-4times in that time period.)
Yesterday i checked on them and surprisingly, out of the 3 quarantined shrimps, 2 seems to be cleared of the disease(observed for quite a while looking for signs of the disease.)
The other shrimp also had less of the fungus on it as well.
Looks like the medication does work~!
Summary: I got lazy and did not keep up with regular dosing of the medication, so probably the disciplined guy who doses it regularly following the instructions may even shorten the time period needed to 'heal' the shrimps!
What works for me may not work for you, my shrimps even grew a little in size inside the quarantined tank but take it with a pinch of salt, and hope it helps someone out there with this green fungus disease.
Cheers![]()
Before you attempt to use medications for the shrimps, I have to ask, where is the "fungus" in question? I only see a few shrimps with moss and driftwood in the tank. Occasionally algae may grow on the shells of the shrimps so what you may have could probably just be some sort of algae.
Fish.. Simply Irresistable
Back to Killies... slowly.
Im not sure whether its algae or fungus but once in a while ,that green stuff will appear on some/or one of my shrimp's swimmerettes as a small green growth and if i do not separate the shrimp out, it will start to spread to other shrimps soon.
It always grows on the swimmerettes and get bigger as time passes until it grows and fills the swimmerettes up and make the poor shrimp immobile and dies due to stress or inability to find food or something.
Its hard for me to take a detailed shot as i don't have a macro camera.
Its the brighter green stuff protruding outwards just below the shrimp.(in the pic)
Take a look at this thread and see if it is what you are experiencing:

Nope, i've seen this thread before its not.
Its a kind of green 'rubbery' looking stuff gradually growing bigger on the swimming fins.
Always on the fins.
But after separating them out and 'healing' some, i've not seen it for a while now.(touch wood)
Ok i FINALLY(whew!) found macro pics of the shrimps infected with the exact same disease as my shrimps!!!
Anyone shrimp keeper have encountered it before???
Any info is welcome.
