Hi there,
I have been keeping clarkii for almost a year now and they are pretty amazing creatures to rear.
Below are some of my insights for the setup.
Strictly avoid plants. i had my crays hanging on my frogbits and tearing them apart, dirtying the water.
OHFs are ideal as they are easy to clean and don't take up plenty of tank space.
Crays are messy eaters and produce a large amount of waste thus OHFs makes maintenance easier.
Gex OHFs are pretty popular so you might want check that out.
Substrate wise, i tried both sand and gravel and both are a pain to clean up.
Barebottom will be the best for cleaning but that should stress the crays somehow according to some folks.
They need to grip onto something while moving around.
Next, ensure lots of hiding places.Ceramic pots, caves, wood etc.
Just ensure the decors are not too heavy as crays burrow a lot and the next thing you know, broken glasses or lobster marinate.
I personally likes those plastic pipes. Easily available at most hardware shops
Lastly, if you are going with OHFs, you will need to consider a hood or cover. They are amazing jail breakers.
Most LFS sells those egg crates that can easily be customized to your setup.
Happy craying!
