    Glass vs plastic tanks

Hey guys, I’m a beginner currently using a GEX plastic tank to house my two turtles.

However, there seem to be a case of watermarks all over the tank ever since I installed a filter.

The stains do come off during cleaning but will re-emerge the next day.

I plan on getting a new tank eventually when my turtles outgrow the current tank so should I get a glass tank instead?

Would a glass tank still have such unsightly stains all over it?

What’s the difference between a glass and a plastic tank other than the weight?

Is there anything I should know about having a glass tank?

    Thank you!

Hey, I think that people usually prefer glass to plastic as glass does not scratch as easily

Of course it is also more costly but they do provide a clearer view

Actually some acrylic tanks have greater clarity than glass ones. The main issue it he scratches. Glass is harder to scratch. I have the same problem with the water marks. Some say add bicarbonate of soda water to solution and cleaning should help. Or vinegar.

    Re: Glass vs plastic tanks

The water stains marks are caused by the splashing of water from the rainbar and (looking at your pictures) when the water bubbles on the water surface burst, sending the water droplets flying to the plastic tank walls. So it is not the question of plastic or glass tank. the easy but troublesome way is to wipe the walls daily to prevent the minerals and impurities buildup that form water stains.

You can try lowering the rainbar close to the water surface to prevent splashing and bubbles.

the other way is to wait for the build up and use the methods mention above by other hobbist to clean the tougher stain when it appears.
