Will apisto attack shrimps and smaller fishes?

On occasions yes, but depending on the circumstances. When a female apisto is tending to a brood of fry, she will fend off any intruders coming close to the fry. Any fish in the area is liable for some aggression from the female apisto. Shrimps in this case, occasionally become snacks for the apistos if they're in the moulting stage or are small enough to be swallowed without much difficulty.
