    Can i use pond water to jump start the process ?

    Its possible but very little of the beneficial bacteria lives in the water column, the majority of them adhere and live on surfaces instead, so its better to transfer over gravel, hardscape or plants to help "seed" the new tank.

    Do make sure the pond water and its objects are clean and free of parasites or pests though... don't end up with dragonfly nymphs, snails and other critters hopping over to your tank.
