This is not a pure-bred balloon Electric Blue. Looks like it is carrying Gold genes too. Likely to be a female.

Via the fins. Most female Rams do not have extended fins. If they do it is never as long as the males, even for Balloons. I see a short pair of pelvic fins with a rounded front edge so it's probably a female. Some female Rams may get extensions to the dorsal fin spines, which is normal. I've bred Electric Blue before but they were horrible parents.. constantly eating the eggs.

I see! I spent bout an hour trying to identify them but they kept swimming into the flora, their own little 'jungle' you see. Haha. But oh well, I think I'm just gonna let nature take its course(: Not gonna intentionally isolate them and let them spawn with all the horror stories I've heard. Thanks so much for the info Stormhawk(:

Just a thought, i personally never buy the baloon or veiltail or the electric blue colored rams as I think they are altered/artificial and are different from the actual form of the fish. I still prefer the wild looking ones, especially bolivian rams.

All balloon version of fish are altered and tend to have short lifespan compared to the "natural one" just google for more information.

I would not say that the Balloon or Electric Blues have shorter lifespan as compared to the typical Ram. However, like aquanick, my personal preference is still the wild Ram.

This is not a Bolivian Ram. The body form and coloration are different.
