    Hi,

Has anyone heard of carbo-plus product for generating CO2? Looks cool. Any comment on the usage?

I have seen this before. They sell them at the lfs and they use one on there display tank. From what I have noticed they waste a lot of the c02. They send a bunch of bubbles out every now and then and they are rather large. In my opinion the diy yeast method would be better than this or if you want to spend the money pressurized c02.

General feedback from those who had used this product is that it is not cost effective.

The carbon electrodes need to be replaced periodically. The electrodes are not cheap.

It converts CO3 in the water into CO2. Therefore KH of the water need to be monitored and maintained.

I just want to share my experience using Carbo Plus (ex-Germany):
    1. This system only effective for small tank (max 120cm)
    2. As bclee mentioned you also need to watch the KH otherwise it will invite algae , after moving to pressurized the algaes are dissapearing !
    3. In my tank 150cm x 60 x 60 cm , 1 carbon plate last for 1 year . I synchronize the timing with the lighting using timer.

    Hope this help.
    Cheers,

    AChen

I had one...save your money for a pressurized system, they are MUCH more effective. If you have a low KH it doesn't work at all, it only works when the KH is higher. It is also pretty bulky inside the tank. Go with a gas...you will regret a Carbo+

Thanks everyone for the advice. Will go for a pressurised CO2 setup.
