    I think its too late to say this...
    when "no See" situation appears, its worthwhile to take out all the media from the HOF and place in sponge. this is because you don't want your media to be clogged with soil..

    Maybe next time you can try this method.

    Invert a plastic container to add water
    When water level is up, the container will float
    Continue to add water gently by pouring on the container's surface until your desired water level

    Can reduce a lot of mess in the water, and takes only a few hours to clear if your filter has a high flow rate.

    is the hof brand new ? rattling sound maybe you didnt attach the inlet pipe properly , sound probably came from the propeller
