There is a certain corner of my tank where by uneaten food and other debris seem to collect. Any good way of solving this deadspot? I've tried turning the filter output pipe in all directions but it doesn't seem to help.

I'm using Eheim 2222 on a 2ft. Output is the Eheim curved green pipe.

    Re: Filter deadspot

The curved Eheim green pipe has just a narrow mouth right? Those concentrate the flow current in a very narrow stream which does tend to create more dead spots.

Maybe you could consider using a glass lily pipe with a wider mouth instead, those spread out the flow and create a much wider current for more tank coverage.

Though if you find that uneaten food tends to accumulate in dead spots, its also a sign to feed less.

    Re: Filter deadspot

your 2222 should come with rainbar you can try using that.
If just using the output from, the L join provided, maybe for your case cannot cover the deadspots.

Some other folks will prefer to use duckbill outlet or Lilypipe to spread the output.

Thanks for the inputs guys. After much turning and moving of the pipes, I managed to somewhat reduce the dead spot. Right now the smaller dead spot is shifted to the front of the tank. At least it's easier to clean the debris.

UA: Lily pipe expensive leh. I'm not sure if I'm feeding too much but I notice that only the food that the fishes don't like seem to end up uneaten. Maybe they are just fussy.

Felix & Berny: My 2222 is second hand, didn't come with the rain bar unfortunately. Anyway, I wanted to try something other than rain bar. Is the duckbill meant to attach on to the green curved pipe? Or is it a separate pipe altogether?

attached to green curved pipe, some filter brands come with it.
Should be pretty modular see below for the atman kit that comes with it.

Ehiem only have Jet and rainbar, unless you follow buying ehiem 3rd party rainbar should be fairly affordable. LFS should sell.

Alot of folks use glass lily pipes, chic and can help spread the flow + if you use it right it's also a surface skimmer.
Same drawback as duckbill, your flow though spread is also weaker.

I've seen some cheap $20-$30 glass lily pipes at the various LFS, can consider those. The glass quality may not be ADA-grade, but it still does its job... anytime still look alot nicer than the green plastic eheim pipes.

I guess if you find that the fishes ignore some foods, then best not to feed them those, helps reduce pollution in the water.

    Re: Filter deadspot

If I am not wrong, cheaper lily pipes have thinner walls hence easier to break.

The composition of the glass maybe the reason the glass is more brittle.

    Re: Filter deadspot

Just an update on my dead spot issue. I bought a lily pipe set off Tao bao. It seems to have finally solved the problem. I'm even able to turn on my canister to full output now without the washing machine effect.
I was hesitant to get a lily pipe due to the cost and chance of breakage. The set I got seems quite thick though I'm not sure if the composition is poor as mentioned by some.
Shall see how much of a difference it makes to my tank over the next few weeks.

Yeah, lily pipes (especially the wider mouth designs) create a gentler but wide spread of flow which covers more areas of the tank. There will usually still be a lower current spot directly under the outflow pipe though, so do make sure to position the inflow pipe next to the outflow, so that there is still some circulation created by the intake around that area too.

To avoid breakage during lily pipe maintenance, just to do everything slowly, don't rush and make sure you have more space to work in. After a few times, you'll get the skill of handling and cleaning them.

My friend placed an order for me with 65daigou. Didn't have any issues with it. Was your co2 checker damaged?

    Re: Filter deadspot

Luckily the co2 checker is small so only the box damaged. The agent was not willing to ship for me, only when I void them the liability for damaged then they allow the purchase.
