Do we need heater?

I have tropical fish and am wondering whether we need heater in Singapore's weather.

Normally Singapore is pretty hot and I think my fish will do okay without one but recently the weather is considered "cold" for Singapore and am wondering if I should get a heater. Please advice!

I do not think so. The general fish available to us are tropical fish that still can handle "cold" room temperature tanks. As a matter of fact, singapore is quite hot compare to many countries, where the fishes natural habitat are. The slight drop in temperature is more comfortable to most fishes.

Having a heater on standby is good. It will come in handy when you need to treat common illness like white spot.

Its usually not necessary, unless you are the type that like to tune the air-con temperature super low like 18°C and are keeping fauna like discus or sulawesi shrimps that prefer warmer water conditions, then you'll probably need a heater for the tank.

Otherwise for most other fauna, they would be okay with temperature fluctuations from day to night of 28-29°C to 23-24°C, as long as the change in temperature is gradual (not sudden like a full tank water change with much colder water).
