Will canister filter rise the tank temperature?

Am using Eheim 2213 and my tank's temperature is around 29 to 30 degree celcius during day time.

Heard that canister filter transfer the heat to the water, is it true?

Also is my tank's temperature too high for my fishes and plants?

Can anybody kind to enlighten me?

Yes, of course canister filter do transfer the heat to the water, but lesser than submerge filters!

At 29 to 30degC, most tropical fish should be alrite, but plants will suffer especially mosses.

Add a fan to cool your tank, 27 should be achievable.

Eheim 2213 power consumption is only 8W. The heat contribute by the filter should be very minimal or negligible.

Or is it because my room is too warm for the tank?

Its facing east, so got sun shine in the morning.

Done a experiment before, using EHEIM canister filter did not increase my tank temp at all. I wrote to them and was told that it is insignificant

Use a fan, should cool down your tank. If not built your own chiller...go to

If your room temp is above 28degC, without convection or evaporation from a fan, it is not possible to have temperature much lower than the room temperature.

Most of the heat should be coming from your lights and the surrounding.

i get 26++, it can be done. Make sure air flow of your room is constant. If you get regular winds in your rooms, you should not have this problem. But if your room is quite stuffy, you might consider getting the fans that the guys has recommended.

Generally there are few ways of cooling:
1. water pump
Not many people do it with planted tanks but a pump do drive temperature down.

2. chiller
People who can afford it usually use chillers

3. Cooler Fans
Some use hanging fans, some use a normal fans directing at the water surface. Water are subject to faster evaporation. So you need to monitor it.

4. Iced Bottle
Some use ice packs, water bottles, mineral bottles, freeze it and put inside the water. Usually dun last more than an hr.

My living is quite airy so I dun get much of cooling problem even with 2 regular lights on a 8hr timer at night.
