Gold Fish Eggs - please help tell me if they are alive!

Hi my name is kathleen and my friends children had a goldfish that died. Very soon after it died they cut it open and let all the eggs out and straight into water. Now 2 days later the tank smells really bad. Are these eggs alive? The eggs are together in sacks and still white. The colour of the water hasn't changed.

Goldfish eggs are useless without a male goldfish to fertilise them. They will turn white and become moldy very quickly if left in the tank. Goldfish breeders can also squeeze (expertly and gently) the male fish to extract the fertilising fluid.
