No need to drill or cut.... just fix the horizontal stems (known as rhizomes) at the base of the leaf to the wood or surface and twirl black cotton thread around the rhizome (+ wood) a few times to secure the plant, but not too tight, just enough that they don't get loose...... with good growing conditions they will attach themselves to the wood after a while. You can also use those flexi-rigid plastic strips used to tie computer or phone cables together... i find they are good for securing ferns, mosses and anubias.

yeap i use the plastic ties to tie them to driftwood. Only problem is you have to remove them asap after the plants attach themselves, as they might rust.

I still recommend black cotton thread, secures easily, and rots away by itself after a while.

Its okay to tie with sewing threads AND tie gently, but you must remember to cut them loose once the fern has attached itself. Sewing threads do not rot, after a while, u might get algae attaching itself to the threads if you dun take real good care of it.

Use and observe regularly, I would recommend.
